MS Centre renovation
MS CENTRE RENOVATION 2008 Theme: to promote active youth participation in community life trough healthy life style and physical activities. Aim: This activity aims to develop young people social and civic competence which is includes the development of their intercultural and interpersonal competences and cover all forms of behavior that equips young people in an effective and constructive way in their social and working life. The development of the social and civic competence in young people increase their participation in the community life and contributes toward the creation of the participative and democratic society. Preparation phase: The preparation phase consists of 12 weeks preparation work and fundraising for the young people to be prepared for their European Experiences. Some of the work undertaken are, Health and Safety, Risk Assessment, Language training, Do's and Don'ts abroad, Cultural Awareness, Budgeting, Fundraising for the project equipment. The young people also participate at Consett YMCA on a two day UK residential in order to make sure they understand what their European Voluntary Service entails.
The project european partners: Fundatia de Scleroza Multipla Bihor MS Implementation phase: During the implementation phase of the activity volunteers will be involved in the redecoration process of room in the "MS Centre" of Oradea. The day care centre from Oradea, is developing an initiative for youngsters to involve them in MS movement, by developing two objectives such as: day MS center activities, web page project, in order to offer information in MS sector for all Romanian MS Society. In the day MS center, the organization is offering to MS people different services like: gymnastic, sport, handicraft workshop, video sessions, and internet and games workshops. The second topic of the project: web page is edited and operated by National Office of Romania MS Society and for volunteers work is about preparing the web cafeteria for MS people, because the MS people will use these page in order to seek information and get in contact wit other MS people and pose there description and group initiatives.. Sfintii Trei Ierarhi Foundation had already developed various previous partnership activities with MS Centre, through which Foundation helped the centre develop other educational services for MS people. Through hosting of EVS volunteer group in short term sees as the opportunity for the Special school number 1, to receive the support in the development of new learning services for its beneficiaries. At this moment, Special School number 1 would like to start an after school program for young people which aim is to help these youngsters to understand the environment in which they live and to see, how different plants, trees , flowers and etc. are developing. To give the young people opportunity to take care of something that is a part of the environment where we live and to develop in one the feeling of responsibility toward the world we are live. This after school program will include practical task (tree, plant, flower planting, watering, taking care of their growth) and theoretical part that will provide information about how the planets green part is build and affected by human activities. In order to create and develop this educational program for these youngsters, the schools is necessary to renovate and prepare a special room in the building, which would be equipped with the necessary tools and instruments for planting plants, space and light for their growth. At this moment the Special School Nr 1, has the space that could be allocated for the purpose of creating this room, but it is necessary to conduct certain redecorations in it, so it can be used for this activity. Volunteer's role in this activity will be to provide support in the redecoration process of the room. This room redecoration project, we see as an opportunity for volunteers to learn practical skills for them selfs, by doing a service for the community. Besides the practical skills that these young people will learn, they will develop their intercultural competences and communication skills by working in multicultural team ( Volunteers will work together with volunteers from Special School Nr 1 and from our community). Volunteers tasks during the activity:
Practical arrangements Volunteers work 5 working days per week and they had the weekends free. During the weekends, host organization offerd volunteers possibility to visit other parts and cities in Bihor county and Romania. The lunch was provided in the volunteer working place by the food catering company. The menu of the each working day was agreed with the food catering company in advance based on the needs of the group and on special dietary needs. In this way hosting organization can take into consideration the dietary needs (if they exist) of volunteers. For the breakfast and the dinner volunteers received money on hands, so this gived them the opportunity to arrange their eating time according to their habits. The group mentor introduced volunteers with the location of the supermarkets and market in the city, so the volunteer can conduct the shopping according to their needs. Volunteer's accommodation was in the youth hostel, that is equipped with the kitchen which gives the opportunity for volunteers to cook for themselves. The hostel is non-smoking non-alcoholic building that provide volunteers with 1-2 bed rooms, which includes shower and WC in room. For the volunteers, who are smokers, the hostel provides this opportunity in the inside yard in the territory of youth hostel.
