26 NOV 2008 Depaul Trust Northern Ireland is a charity who works with homeless and other marginalized groups. We have two hosting projects in Belfast and seek 4 motivated volunteers in total.
Stella Maris Homeless People Project 2008-GB-52
Deadline: 1st February
Volunteer Application Deadline: 9th January
Activity Starts: August 2009
Duration: 10 months
Project: A residential homeless hostel for adults with alcohol addiction. Residents can consume alcohol on the premises under the ethos of Harm Minimization. Residents may have mental and physical health problems.
Volunteers: Two patient and motivated volunteers required for organizing and initiating activities in the hostel. For example games, photography, arts and crafts. Our residents do have addiction problems so volunteers may face challenges such as apathy and working with people with low self esteem.
The Homeless Families Project 2007-GB-118
Deadline: 1st February
Volunteer Application Deadline: 9th January
Activity Starts: August 2009
Duration: 10 months
Project: Two residential hostels for homeless families. Residents may have suffered from family breakup, domestic violence or displacement. Parents may be very young themselves and have little life experience.
Volunteers: Two patient and motivated volunteers required for organizing and initiating activities in the hostel for parents and their children (ages can range from babies upwards). Residents live in their own self contained flats so volunteers are required to provide activities to encourage residents to socialize and gain new experiences. Activities could include - playgroup, DVD nights, quizzes, organizing trips to the local park, basic cookery demonstrations.
We do work with challenging people so please advise all interested volunteers to read our project information carefully.
